Yushan’s Remote Health Emergency Wireless Handheld Ultrasound Assistant
Yushan’s remote healthcare undergoes another upgrade; Aco Smartcare proudly introduces the “Wireless Handheld Ultrasound” for convenient consultations.
Apache Wireless Handheld Ultrasound System
To overcome constraints in emergency medical services, the Yushan Medical Team implemented a remote healthcare system ten years ago.
They established 24/7 real-time consultation services between the 3402-meter high Peiyuan Lodge medical station and the hospital emergency room.
Last week, they successfully utilized ultrasound equipment and the remote healthcare system, conducting real-time multi-party consultations with successful tests.
This marks a significant breakthrough in high-altitude remote healthcare.
With the advancement of information technology, Zhushan Hospital’s Yushan Medical Team’s remote system has evolved from telephone,
computer, and fax to using mobile communication software for uploading real-time images, photos, and videos.
Recently, the medical team of Zhushan’s healthcare system, utilizing Chunghwa Telecom’s 5G communication and remote healthcare system,
seamlessly connected real-time ultrasound images, 4K video footage of patients, electrocardiograms,
and remote physician and family video calls without delay, significantly enhancing the precision of high-altitude healthcare.

Yushan’s remote healthcare Emergency Care and POCUS Handheld Ultrasound
Zhushan Hospital’s remote healthcare team, led by Dr. Chen Chiag Ching, pointed out that during the era of 3G and 4G communication,
many medical examinations required special equipment and high-volume image transmission.
Unable to meet the limitations of real-time image transmission, remote diagnosis and communication were often not precise enough.
However, with the introduction of 5G communication medical kits and pocket-sized handheld ultrasound devices,
the team successfully tested them at the Yushan Paiyun Lodge medical station, resolving the issue of real-time image transmission.
Dr. Chen Chia Ching mentioned that in March of last year, during the first deployment of ultrasound equipment to Paiyun Lodge,
they encountered a mountaineer experiencing dizziness, unstable gait, and vomiting.
The ultrasound revealed an optic nerve diameter exceeding 5.5mm, indicating increased brain pressure consistent with the diagnosis of high-altitude cerebral edema.
After undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the patient’s symptoms improved significantly, and they safely descended the mountain the next day.
In late December of the same year, the team returned to the mountain. Using Apache ultrasound in ocular preset, they examined 11 mountaineers on-site, identifying three individuals with mild dizziness. This early screening allowed them to detect cases of elevated brain pressure due to high-altitude sickness promptly.
These individuals received immediate medication, resolving potential discomfort and crisis.

Wireless handheld ultrasound instruments are valuable for high mountain medical care
On the medically resource scarce Yushan high mountain, the remote healthcare team applies ultrasound technology to assess and diagnose high-altitude sickness.
Through online consultations, doctors can remotely observe and evaluate the condition of patients, alleviating the pressure on medical resources and enabling more mountaineers to benefit from high-quality healthcare.
In the future, they plan to extensively apply ultrasound, a non-invasive medical examination technology, in the diagnosis and monitoring of cardiovascular diseases,
liver diseases, gynecological diseases, and more. This approach not only benefits patients but also allows doctors and family members unrestricted access to diagnostic information,
breaking geographical barriers and providing comprehensive medical services to rural areas, safeguarding the health of the entire population.
